Sometimes our website visitors end up on our sites in not exactly the way we intended and they get to a page that doesn’t exist or is currently down.  Generally speaking this happens from missing content, changed link or an all together wrong link.  When this happens, you get the dreaded 404 page.   Often seen as a dead end, with the only way out is to backtrack, today it is taken as an opportunity to redirect, entertain and keep visitors engaged.  Sadly, many web designers and developers still fail to jump on this and make the best out of the situation. Having a good and smart error 404 page is perhaps as important as having great contents. Sometimes it may not be your fault visitors landed on error pages, but being able to keep him interested and then direct them back to another page is a perfect second chance to make sure they don’t leave.
